“From Wool to Carpet” Women promote Development of the Region

Women processing wool, spin thread, weave carpets, cloths, nice toys. The workshop “From Wool to Carpet” was established in 2002 in Shinuhar, the largest but rather neglected village of Syunik marz.

Goris Women’s Development Resource Center Foundation established the workshop. According to Ms Sona Torozyan, Director of Foundation, the objective for foundation of this already well known and successful workshop was alleviation of unemployment and solving the issue of women’s employment, and why not development of a whole chain of the economy as well.

On 1 June, Mr. Karen Zadoyan, the EU funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project Manager visited the “From Wool to Carpet” workshop, got acquainted with the activities of the initiative, founded by women, and discussed the current issues in the field of social entrepreneurship and possibilities for further development with the director.

Ms Ruzanna Torozyan said that Shinuhayr village was largely ignored by tourists, but now many are attending a workshop, familiarized wool processing, spinning, and the entire process of creating handicrafts and for shopping.
