Today, the regular Conference on the “UN Model” ( 5th) was held in Yerevan. The organizer was the Armenian United Nations Association (AUNA). This is a game, when the students duplicate the UN countries posing the problems and suggesting solutions.
The theme of the conference is about climatic changes and sustainable development. The Armenian students represent 50 countries.
“The aim of the conference is to integrate the youth and enable to discuss and attach importance to such cases that are interesting for all. It is very interesting to realize new solutions that the youth suggest”- Natali Sahakyan, the coordinator of the Conference, the director of the youth wing of AUNA said in the interview with iravaban.net.
Araks Mikayelyan studies at YSU, and she represented South Korea. Araks states that it is already a month she examines the climate of this country. “South Korea is the most developed country in this direction, it has a powerful potential. I tried to make this country an example for other countries: that is what to do to cancel the results of climatic changes and what to do so that it does not affect economy, culture and social sector”,- she said.
Mariam Nersisyan, a student in YSLU, represented Australia: “I posed two problems: the problem of the increase of the ocean level and the air pollution. I consider the basic reason of this the exploitation of nuclear Power Stations. I suggest all the countries to adopt laws restricting exploitation of the Nuclear Power Stations, install filters to decrease the amount of polluted materials’- said the student.
According to YSU student and a member of AUNA Sona Makasyan, such conferences make the students more fearless during a speech in front of the audience. “The UN model empowers a person stating that he/she has the right to speech and freedom, and you should express your point of view”-our interlocutor said.
According to Hrachya Kazhoyan, the AUNA consultant, such conferences promote diplomatic ideas and skills of the youth. Speaking about the choice of the theme he said:” Armenia is an agriculture country. The main part of our economy is connected with this branch. Now the climate change greatly affects our economy. The means should be developed beforehand and the system should be prepared beforehand. By means of such events the future generation will be informed about the challenges and find local solutions”- Mr. Kazhoyan said.
He also stated that the final product is being finalized and will be presented to the Government.
