Nikol Pashinyan countered Aliyev: Not “Zangezur Corridor”, but “Armenian Crossroads”

Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on the mutual recognition of each other’s territorial integrity, and on that basis we are making quite successful progress towards the normalization of our relations, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in Moscow.

“We call it the Armenian crossroad,” he said in response to Aliyev’s phrase “Zangezur Corridor”.

According to him, Yerevan is ready to unblock all transport and economic connections in the region, is ready to open regional communications.

“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev used an expression in his speech, which in recent years serves as a basis for territorial claims against Armenia. I want to say that it is used in the context of the implementation of the statement of 9 November, 2020, I want to emphasize that in that statement the speech is only about one corridor and that is Lachine Corridor,” Pashinyan said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes that today at the tripartite meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan, agreements will be reached in the interests of economic development.

Responding to Nikol Pashinyan’s statement, Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan has no territorial demands from Armenia. “We have no territorial claims against Armenia. You have to have a very vivid imagination to see such things in my words. Using the word “corridor” in no way means that we have territorial claims to someone’s territory.”

He noted that there is a possibility of reaching a peaceful agreement between Baku and Yerevan, especially considering that Armenia has recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
