US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, urged him to immediate reopening of the Lachin Corridor for commercial traffic, the Department of State has released a message about this.
He underscored that the risk of a humanitarian crisis in the Lachin Corridor undermines prospects for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Secretary encouraged President Aliyev to redouble efforts in bilateral peace discussions with Armenia. He also raised human rights concerns in Azerbaijan.
From 12 December, 2022 until now, Azerbaijan continues to close the only highway connecting Artsakh to the world, the Lachin Corridor, citing false environmental reasons.
