Participant of the April 2016 war, Hayk Sekhliyan went to the Federal Republic of Germany thanks to the President of Amitié Franco-Armenienne Var Est Association, French-Armenian Alina Vardanyan, Dalita Hajyan, Levon Muradyan, Patrick Otamyan, Patrick Boyajyan, Sevan Boyajyan, Michel Lard and a number of other supporters.
“I was wounded on 4 April, 2016, in Talish, by a fragment of a projectile fired by the enemy. First aid was provided in Stepanakert, after which I was transferred to Yerevan. Everythig possible in connection with the treatment in Armenia was provided. In 2019, the Government allocated money and I went to Germany for treatment, which was left incomplete due to the small amount of funds.
We have many good, good-willed people, compatriots abroad and, thanks to Alina Vardanyan, thanks to whom 30,000 euros were collected. The cost of the equipment is around 14,000 euros. The first goal is to remove the fragment from the spinal cord,” Hayk Sekhliyan details.
While in the intensive care unit, he remembers hearing the doctors talking, who expressed no hope that he would ever walk. According to the doctors, in case of the biggest miracle, Hayk would be able to just sit in bed. “When I moved my big toe for the first time, the doctors couldn’t believe it. They said ‘this child is so “excited” that he speaks such things.’ When I was able to move the toe in the presence of the doctors, I understood from the expression on their faces that the thing I wanted to happen will happen.”
Hayk continues to serve in the RA Armed Forces from 2003 up to day. Despite being severely injured, he participated in the 44-day Artsakh war in 2020 as well.
P.S. Hayk is currently in Germany. He was able to take a few steps without a cane with the devices attached to him. Instead of the 4 weeks planned for Hayk’s treatment, a 6-week course of treatment was needed.
