“Ayb” High School has issued an announcement, which says:
“Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the Ad Astra team of the “Ayb” School Design Training Engineering Club has become the winner of the “Kemurjyan Universal Space Competition 2022”. The device designed by “Ayb” students will be sent into space as the winner of the competition. The flight is planned from a suborbital rocket to be launched into space in June.
Armenian teenagers aged 12-21 took part in the competition. 3 teams (Ad Astra, AYAS, GDL) passed to the final stage, which presented their device for the final selection.
The members of the Ad Astra team of “Ayb” school are 12th grade students Andre Vardanyan, Elina Melkonyan, Hayk Piliposyan, 11th grader Davit Vanyan,
the mentors are Vazgen Gabrielyan, the head of the engineering club, the employee of the robotics laboratory, graduate of “Ayb” school Ruben Kerobyan..
The 197-gram device (payload) designed by the students of “Ayb” school will be placed in a sub-orbital rocket, and sent to open space, up to 125 km height, that is, it will cross the conventional boundary of the universe (Karman line). The device will stay in space for 2-3 minutes, during which it will collect data on the rocket’s flight path, temperature, pressure change, speed, acceleration, as well as the intensity of ultraviolet radiation and ozone concentration. The sensors performing the last two measurements were designed, proposed by the AYAS team, and added in collaboration with that team. After carrying out the planned measurements, the device will fall back together with the rocket.
The students of “Ayb” school Design Training Engineering Club will have the opportunity to participate in the 6th “Starmus” international scientific festival by winning the competition.
The 2022 Kemurjyan Universal Space Competition is a joint initiative of Bazoomq Space Research Lab and HyeTech organization.
“Ayb” High School School is the first educational social initiative in Armenia. More than 75% of students receive financial support. This means that any student who is admitted to “Ayb” High School is not deprived of the opportunity to study here because of the family’s solvency.
One of the components of the “Araratian Baccalaureate” educational program offered at the school is project-based learning, which was implemented at “Ayb” school is an innovative educational model introduced in 2015, based on the principle of “learning by doing”. It builds learning around programs. Students form teams, implement large-scale, long-term programs aimed at solving real community problems. ”
