The Turkish journalist was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison for insulting Erdogan

Istanbul 36th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced Turkish journalist Sedef Kabaş to 2 years and 4 months in prison. However, the court released Kabaş on parole, taking into account the size of the sentence, Ermenihaber reports.

Kabaş was charged with two counts of “insulting the Turkish President” and “insulting a state official (Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu -ed.)”. The journalist, however, was found guilty only of insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

It should be reminded that Sedef Kabaş was arrested on 22 January. An investigation was launched against her, as her statement made live on 14 January on the Turkish “Tele 1” TV Channel was considered an insult to the Turkish President. Kabaş particularly said: “A bull does not become king just by entering the palace, but the palace becomes a barn.”
