Russia is ready to support the start of demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border։ Zakharova

Russia is ready to provide consulting assistance to the start of work on the demarcation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and its subsequent demarcation to resolve the conflict between the two countries as soon as possible. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing on Friday. TASS news agency reported.

“As a stable and long-term solution to this problem, we see the immediate start of border demarcation work between Azerbaijan and Armenia with the subsequent delimitation. We are ready to provide the necessary advisory assistance, and are currently in contact with the foreign and defense departments, as well as the border services, in order to reduce tensions,” she said.

According to the diplomat, the Russian Federation does not think that the situation on the border between the two countries is directly related to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. This is due to the lack of legal border registration. “We assume that the situation in certain areas of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is not directly related to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh and it is a consequence of the lack of international legal registration of the border. The general background, of course, deepens the lack of mutual trust between the parties,” Zakharova added.

Maria Zakharova also noted that the situation in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping force remains relatively stable. Individual incidents are resolved immediately in cooperation with Azerbaijani and Armenian partners. No provocative actions against Russian peacekeepers were registered.
