“The whole passage is covered with smoke, cables are burning.” Arthur Voskanyan, Colonel of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, said this in a conversation with journalists, talking about the smoke coming out of the Children’s Railway tunnel.

“Reconnaissance is underway. At this moment the center has been found, we are arranging forces to carry out extinguishing work. There was a high voltage, the cables burned due to high heat. We will start the extinguishing work in 10 minutes. The whole area is without electricity. There are 30 high voltage cables (6,000 volt),” he said.

According to Voskanyan, the alarm was received about 2 hours ago, “There are shafts there, extinguishing works will be carried out in the smoky zone.”

Mr. Karen Harutyunyan, the director of “Electric Networks of Armenia” Company mentioned that the cables are an additional source of electricity in the Small Center.

“But we have an alternative source, and everyone should have been provided with electricity. In a short time it was possible to switch to additional supply. There is no need to worry,” he said.
