Garegin Miskaryan, a member of the executive body of the “Citizen’s Decision” party, wrote on his Facebook page: “My very dear Mrs. Anna Hakobyan asks at a Facebook press conference why a new escalation of the struggle against the mine operation in Amulsar started, if nothing has changed with the ruling power.

Let me try to list:

The first and most important reason is time. People’s patience is not limitless, when you see that the results of two years of struggle do not bear fruit, when you see that the revolutionary government does not give a finger to solve the problem, to protect the violated rights of the people, a small spark is enough to make the nerves to break.

Believe me, the Jermuk-Lydian border is no less important for the people of Jermuk than the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for all of us. It is a struggle for them to live with dignity in their home, it is a struggle for existence. But the people of Jermuk are not able to fight against the international financial giants all their lives. Their hope is the legitimate government elected by them, which should have solved their problem, created a stable environment for investment in Jermuk, because, as you understand, no sensible investor will build a rest house or sanatorium near the mine.

The second reason is the policy of biased, double standards pursued by the “state” (ruling force).

1. Lydian brought an armed group to Amulsar, no explanation was given,
2. Jermuk (community) checkpoints were illegally relocated, no assessment was made,
3. Lydian’s armed group set up obviously illegal buildings in the disputed area, a criminal case has been initiated to find out whom the area belongs, no one interfered,
4. The citizens of Jermuk defending their rights were taken to the police station, and nothing was undertaken against the Lydian’s armed group, which curses the police and the citizens and provokes the peaceful demonstrators,
5. The demonstrations of Lydian’s supporters in front of the government building are monitored by the police, pass without obstacles, and on the opposite side, two human rights activists are unable to hold their peaceful picket in the same place. Moreover, my friend and I are detained on charges of holding a prohibited gathering quite far from the Government building (near the fountains), and illegally deprived of my liberty for three hours.

If we add to all this all the promises made but not fulfilled by the ruling power, the promised and unfulfilled reforms, the promised and unfulfilled revolutionary agenda items, it becomes clear why the people are “unfaithful”, why only the “hundred” coronavirus Measures are not enough to gain the same level of trust from citizens as there was in the government in the days of the revolution towards your spouse some time after that.

One more thing.

The “neutral” position taken by your husband in the issue of Amulsar will further damage the already decreasing trust in him day by day. The reason is very simple.

Amulsar will not become a mine in any case. The conscious citizen of Armenia will not allow it and in that case, if the ruling power did not clearly stand by the people in that issue, the society will consider it a betrayal and no matter how “neutral” your husband will be, leaving the people alone in the fight against the formers and corporations will not bypass the government elected by the people and its leader. This is not a threat, but I am sure that one day you will have a question why the people hated their beloved leader so much, then remember that you are at least partially familiar with the answer.

But there is still a chance to save everything, if the government takes concrete steps in the near future (for example, the EIA ( Environmental Impact Assessment recognize invalid), even in the most difficult and undesirable developments, the society will stand by it and we will not have to go through new shocks in time.
