On 20 January, 2020, China’s Guangdong Province confirmed that the virus was transmitted from person to person. No specific method of treatment for the virus has been developed so far.

Since 22 January, the city of Wuhan has been declared quarantine, all public transport has been suspended, and the city has been closed for entry and exit. The virus has been reported in most administrative units in China.

On 30 January, a new coronavirus outbreak was recognized at the WHO Emergency Committee meeting as a public health emergency that has international significance.

Notably,  today a session of the Commission on Prevention of Coronavirus has been convened in the Government. Discussions focused on the current situation in the world and in our region due to the coronavirus and its prevention in Armenia. Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan presented statistics on the prevalence, morbidity and mortality rate of coronavirus at the moment, referring to prevention measures in our country, monitoring of citizens arriving in Armenia, technical training and diagnostics needed for RA medical institutions. During the exchange of ideas, further steps were discussed, including what to do about the situation surrounding the spread of coronavirus in the neighboring Islamic Republic of Iran. The Prime Minister gave corresponding instructions to the heads of the concerned departments.
