Within the walls of the hospital, mothers who presumably had never been pregnant and had a baby, were documented in the medical records as mothers who gave birth: Attorney

Hundreds of parents reported that their children were born dead, and children seeking parents reported that some parents were dead and others that they had been abandoned by the parents. Lawyer Susanna Sargsyan said this during a press conference held today by the mothers of the “Armenian Mothers” movement created by Haykuhi Khachatryan, who is looking for her child.

According to her, there are explanations, not from the parents who adopted children, but from parents who bought their children, who have been called from the hospitals, to say that their long-awaited time had come, that they had a suitable child and whom they can come and pick up.

“Within the walls of the hospital, mothers who presumably had never been pregnant and had a baby, were documented in the medical records as mothers who gave birth, took the children and went home, of course, for some compensation.

Two days ago I was contacted by a woman who gave birth at the Republican Hospital in 1992, who witnessed a baby being sold from the hospital. The baby of a 16-year-old girl, who had no parents, no support, was one of the victims of the Spitak earthquake, staying alone, taking advantage of her condition, keeping her child in the Republican Maternity Hospital for a month and a half before the buyer arrived in Armenia. Just under the wall, outside the hospital doors, with the help and presence of the mediators, the child was handed over to the buyer parent, formulating the documents as if a woman who had returned from Russia to Armenia on the same day had given birth a week ago at the Republican Maternity Hospital,” said the advocate

Susanna Sargsyan added that they now have a serious problem with proof. According to her, the basis for these morals has been in place since 1975, when Razmik Abrahamyan started working at the Republican Hospital.

Notably, Razmik Abrahamyan is accused under Article 167 (2-2) (Separation of the child from the parents without the parents’ consent, except cases envisaged in law, or substitution of the child, by previous agreement of a group of persons;) and Article 200 (3) (Commercial bribe) of the RA Criminal Code in the case of adoption of children by foreigners. On 22 December, 2019, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan presided by Judge David Balayan rejected the motion of the investigator to arrest Razmik Abrahamyan. The prosecutor’s office appealed the ruling of the Yerevan Court of First Instance demanding to choose arrested as a measure of restraint for Abrahamyan.
