On january 7, Acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a telephone conversation with Beibut Atamkulov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

During the telephone conversation the sides touched upon the situation in Karaganda. The Armenian and Kazakh Foreign Ministers noted the inadmissibility of attempts to introduce the tragedy which took place as inter-ethnic. The sides agreed that the current situation has a very sensitive nature, highlighting the deliberate distortion of public opinion and noting the importance to eliminate the tension. In this regard, the sides underlined the importance of maintaining direct contacts between different departments of Armenia and Kazakhstan.
