“NA previous and current MPs, intellectuals, show business representatives, lawyers, journalists and clergymen are asked to come to the Liberty Square near Tumanyan monument on 24 June at 00.45 altogether to go to Baghramyan Avenue and form a live wall between the policemen and the activists”- from such a facebook note a live wall between the activists and policemen was created.
From the first sight this was a simple initiative, which played a key and at the same time a hidden role from 24 June to 7 July, the day of the protest action’s dispersion.
Firstly about the Police activities
Yes, the Police activities were not legitimate, started from the applied force and finished by the activities of policemen in street clothes.
After 23 June the situation, the faces and approaches changed.
At first, if on 223 June RA Deputy Head Lyova Eranosyan was in the front line, then after 24 June the situation was controlled by the Head of the Police alongside with First Deputy Head Hunan Poghosyan. They were walking among the activists, talking to them, giving advice: “Shahen, keep alert, moderate your extravagance, ok sunny? – Vladimir gasparyan said to Shant Harutyunyan’s son Shahen.
Nonetheless, the Police changed, service investigation was set, measures of responsibility were undertaken, the cases were sent to Special Investigatory Service, even the protest action was dispersed in quite a calm way. The Police showed its ability to correct its mistakes.
At that Time the Live wall was formed.
Who must have been within the wall that we never saw?
The protests actions of Baghramyan were against the electricity price hike, but where was Yervand Zakharyan, the Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Recourses: he never appeared near the persons of the wall. Zakharyan must have somehow participated in this struggle, but nor a single official announcement was made by him.
The Municipality makes announcements on planting every single flower, on installing every single artificial butterfly or stork. One of the most important streets of the city was blocked for 13 days, but the Mayor Taron Margayan never appeared on this street. There was no announcement, no visit: it seemed like we had no Mayor and Municipality during those days. Alas, the officials of such a rank prefer to stay in their luxurious offices in such situations.
During that Period the Wall Stood Still
Let’s go back to Baghramyan. The wall kept on standing still, there were show business representatives, mainly from Armenia TV, MPs of different parties; the Minister of the Ministry of Education Armen Ashotyan tried to be a part of the wall. Do you think it was incidental that he was standing in the rows of the wall upon insults heard from everywhere?
You may be surprised if we say that the wall was dangerous, provoking, and then we will prove that was of formal nature.
Vladimir Gasparyan, the Head of RA Police was walking among the activists, talking to them and even giving advice.
On these days Vladimir Gasparyan differed also by his emotional behavior. Let’s remember the famous words: “I am Vova Gasparyan!”Who was he angry with? It was a man, who was never present during the protest actions, but in tense situations he was persistently trying to talk to Vladimir Gasparyan. Or, let’s remember the other burst of the Head of the Police: “You formed a live shield, we are the enemy of this country?!”- said V. Gasparyan to the representative of the wall, MP Hovhannes Margaryan from Rule of Law party. It is notable that the policemen were always driven mad by the representatives of the very wall. We do not believe this to be a coincidence.
At last, when the members of “No to Plunder!” initiative left the Baghramyan Avenue and went to Liberty square the so called stage stayed empty.
Suddenly a girl, who all the time was communicating with one of the actors of the wall stood on the barricades and started to yell that they should not go to Liberty square; a bit later man from the wall with a loudspeaker joined her and they started to stimulate and lead the activists.
And then everything happened very obviously. Yes, the main MPs who were the representatives of the wall parties simply were not interfering in the process of the activities. The young men, who started to lead the fight, lost it and the members of “No to Plunder!” initiative never joined them.
And at last the wall stood still on each day when the Police did not undertake any measure, but on the day of the meeting’s dispersion- on 7 July, when the police announced that they will free the street at12.30, there was no such a living wall as it had ever been; only MP Nikol Pashinyan was at Baghramyan Avenue.
One more important coincidence: the wall was formed in Baghramyan Avenue on 24 June and when leaving Baghramyan the members of “No to Plunder!” initiative claimed that the leadership changed and there were discords, other people were leading the activists.
Nevertheless, it may seem like the live wall did not play a role in this fight, but actually it was a kind of a wall that did not stand still all the time, and at the most important moment it simply collapsed and did not serve its aim; and maybe the purpose of the wall was other thing.
