Ombudsman condemns Encroachment against Politicians

The Human Rights Defender of the RA issued the following statement condemning encroachment against politicians:

“I am deeply concerned about the recent arson of vehicles, and especially information about beatings and violence cases against people.

In Suren Sargsyan’s case, my deputy met him on the same day at 21 o’clock. Yesterday at 23 o’clock my representatives visited Aram Manukyan’s residence. Although at present Suren Sargsyan and Aram Manukyan have not filed complaints against public bodies, but we are ready to initiate proceedings on receipt of complaints from victims. Regardless of this circumstance all of these cases in the nearest future will be in our focus.

I expect that all law enforcement agencies ill operate efficiently and impartially, as quickly as possible so that the perpetrators are identified and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

The public should be sure that the perpetrators shall not remain unpunished, and the threats to citizens’ security are eliminated.

Parallel detection of the crime, I urge everyone, especially the public and political figures to keep the norms of legal ethics and show reticence in their speeches. In recent days, some aggressive statements rightly outraged the public.

I hope that all parties will keep all the required professional and human standards to avoid further unnecessary tension.

I strongly condemn any attack on any citizen, and especially against civil and political figures, a person or property.”
