According to the decision of the UN Economic and Social Council from July 21, 2014 the Armenian Young Lawyers Association is in Special Consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UN.
Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the 6 important bodies of the UN founded by the Charter of the UN adopted in 1946. It is responsible for coordinating the economic, social and related work and serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendation and suggestions. ECOSOC works on the internationally agreed goals to target the development of the sphere.
ECOSOC serves as a central mechanism to ensure the activities of the UN system and the specialized bodies, as well as observes the activities of the the expertise in economic, social and ecologic spheres.
AYLA becoming a member of the UN ECOSOC Special Consultative status gained series of rights and privileges. Specifically, this status enables to be informed about the provisional agenda of ECOSOC, to make a request to the Secretary General to place items of special interest in the provisional agenda of the Council. In addition to other privileges, AYLA is enabled to attend the meetings and to access the United Nations and designate official representatives to the United Nations headquarters in New York and United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna.
