As a result of sitting strike of the participants of protest action organized by “DEM EM” Initiative, on 9 April 2014, Nalbandyan Street of Yerevan City was blocked for a long time; as a result the traffic in Nalbandyan and neighboring streets was hindered.
Closing the road and hindering the road traffic creates criminal and administrative responsibility. Sanctions provided by law will be applied against the organizers and participants in case of if such action is repeated.
The prosecutor General’s Office of the RA that realization of the rights of the citizens to hold rallies and marches, should not be accompanied with intended neglecting and gross violation of the public order and constitutional rights of other citizens. In addition it is unacceptable when the gross violation of the public order and the rights of other people in its sense becomes the main objective of the protest action.
The RA legislation provides enough opportunities to the participants and organizers of protest actions or gatherings to implement their constitutional right to organize actions without gross violations of the public order and limitation of the constitutional rights of other people.
