“Art is what distinguishes humans from animals – the ability to create”: Artist Tigran Asatryan

Artists are born, not easily taught or made, asserts artist Tigran Asatryan, adding that it is a divinely given gift and talent that needs to be developed, refined, and cultivated from within.

He believes that when someone has a gift, it is their duty not to bury it in everyday life, but to carefully unveil, nurture, and develop it, because God gives the gift, but leaves perfection in your hands.

“It’s not like you attend some classes for 3-6 months and then you know how to paint. No, it’s a mission that you must fulfill. It’s as if you’re a soldier carrying your burden, preparing for it, working at it for years,” emphasizes the artist.

He says that what distinguishes humans from animals is precisely the ability to create, to be creative, to paint—a gift bestowed by God. When a person creates, they transcend mere existence toward true living. Art is that delicate bridge from instinct to soul.

You can learn more about these subtle boundaries, the perception of beauty, and the colors and shades that delicately affect the soul in the ninth part of the “Mystery of Creation” video series, implemented within the framework of the “ZArt” cultural project, which is produced by Iravaban.net.

“ZArt” has a special mission: to build a bridge between art and society. The project aims to introduce Armenian artists and their exceptional works not only to Armenian society but also to the diaspora and abroad, contributing to the popularization of art and recognition of artists. Through this series of videos, society comes closer to art, and artists come closer to society, creating a beautiful space for cultural understanding.

“I wake up in the morning, come to the studio, work, and go home tired in the evening. That’s my daily work, which I love very much. That’s the ordinary, human happiness that I would like everyone to have. Let everyone experience those feelings and emotions.

I enjoy preparing something in the kitchen, and I approach it with the same feeling and mindset, trying to do something new each time, changing the method of preparation,” says Tigran Asatryan.

He feels like an artist not only when choosing paint but also when finding a new flavor in the kitchen. Experimenting with new flavors in a pan and mixing colors on a painter’s palette are not far from each other. Both are the result of love.

The creator and director of the “ZArt” cultural project is Karen Zadoyan, and the author and director of the “Mystery of Creation” video series is Vazgen Ghukasyan.
