Everyone knows how to paint; even to a newborn child, God gives this talent and gift, asserts artist Ruben Babayan, adding that throughout life, this talent doesn’t develop in everyone.
Our artist, however, has developed this gift within his essence, nourishing it with important spiritual values and characteristics typical of a painter: “These feelings formed in me around 7th-8th grade. From childhood, my brother was better at painting than me; he even received top marks in school. Well-known, famous artists frequently visited our home, there was much interaction, and I probably found myself thanks to them.”
The painter’s brush tells what is impossible to express in words. He sees the world like no one else—through colors, shapes, and emotions. The painter’s heart is the canvas to which he gives life with each new breath.
You can learn about this wonderful world, the magic of art, and the spiritual path of the painter in the eighth part of the “Mystery of Creation” video series, implemented within the framework of the “ZArt” cultural project by Iravaban.net.
“ZArt” has a special mission: to build a bridge between art and society. The project aims to present Armenian artists and their exceptional works not only to Armenian society but also to the diaspora and abroad, contributing to the popularization of art and the recognition of artists. Through this series of videos, society comes closer to art, and artists closer to society, creating a beautiful space for cultural understanding.
Ruben Babayan recounts that before becoming a student, he didn’t know much about art history, but during his student years, studying world art became very important for a boy raised in a village: “This also comes from my teacher, the late Kamalyan, who gave us all the right direction—where to start, whom to study.”
According to the artist, when you are a professional, you need to find your message in different materials and be able to express the content that way: “I have always said—if a person doesn’t have culture, they cannot become a leader, cannot speak the right words, cannot teach. This nature itself is culture.”
The master notes that it’s the order of the world—an artist must always be hungry. As a painter, he knows what it means to create a world that feeds souls, but he himself also always needs nourishment—spiritual nourishment: “A creative person must constantly need to create, to search, to engage, to use time more for that purpose rather than for various pleasures.”
Our interviewee thinks about his art and painting even while doing any other work; that’s how he feels like the right person.
The author and leader of the “ZArt” cultural project concept is Karen Zadoyan, and the author and director of the “Mystery of Creation” video series is Vazgen Ghukasyan.
