He told the boys to go, he saw that there was no way out and blew up the grenade: about volunteer Varuzhan Khojoyan

Varuzhan Khojoyan, who died in the 44-day Artsakh war, was the 4th child of the family. The mother, Anahit Khojoyan, told within the ” Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War” series of Iravaban.net, that he was a good father and a good husband for his wife. “He was unique in everything, he was able tro handle everything from a young age.”

46-year-old Varuzhan volunteered to participate in the war.

“He was engaged in trade, had a shop. He said: I am ashamed that I am sitting in front of the store; children of my son’s age are being killed. Everyone was obtaining a doctor’s note so that they wouldn’t go, he had a certificate, and his one arm was operated on and an iron implant was inserted. I said: Varuzh, how are you going to go with such arm? He said: I am not disabled. When the war started He could not sit in one place. One day he said: Mom, maybe today a summon will be brought, I know you will keep it, you will not give it to me. It turned out that he volunteered and signed up. One day he brought a bag, he was getting ready. He went to the military commissariat several times a day,” his mother said.

Varuzhan Khojoyan went to war on 3 October.

“They were surrounded, they were more than 100 people, and they all escaped, only 10 people remained. He said to those guys: ‘you go, I will protect your back’, they went down, he went out alone against those beasts, he saw that there was no way out, that he could not, and he blew up the hand grenade. But, as I have not seen his face, I do not believe it, I am still waiting. It is very cruel, the longing is suffocating, I cannot stand it,” the mother said.
