“We were running through the forests on foot for 2 hours, until we reached to the neighboring village: Forced Displacement from Artsakh through the Eyes of an Eyewitness

Anya Harutyunyan, who was forcibly displaced from the occupied Republic of Artsakh, told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” documentary project of Iravaban.net told that she was being deported for the third time.

“We were displaced from the village of Vaghuhas in 1992, we moved to Armenia, we stayed in Armenia for a year, the village was liberated, and we returned. We were displaced once again in 2020. We were displaced for the last time on 19 September, 2023. At first we went to Stepanakert and stayed for a few days. We were displaced to Armenia on 25 September,” she said.

Our interlocutor said that they lived in fear for three years, but they lived in their home like everyone else.

She remembered that when the enemy unleashed the aggression on 19 September, they fled from their village to the neighboring village on foot, through the forests.

“They took us to Stepanakert by truck; we stayed in basements for several days, without electricity, without water, there was nothing. The residents of Stepanakert gave us everything. Then we moved to Armenia, we spent three days on the way. When we arrived in Goris, we were met well, with boxes of sweets,” Mrs. Anya said.

In her assessment, the option of reintegration proposed by the Azerbaijani side is a lie.

“These are completely false issues. In case there is no village, no people, no residents, where should you go to integrate?” she said.

Mrs. Anya said that they are the family of perished soldier, they have nothing, and they have no home.

“We ran away barefoot, and came here on foot. We left everything, houses, cars, and livestock. We had a shop. We received a pair of slippers in Stepanakert, put them on and came.”
