Russia expressed a diplomatic demarche to Azerbaijan because of the statement of the Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs about elections in the new regions of Russia; such statements do not correspond to the nature of the alliance between the countries. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced.
She noted that Azerbaijan’s statements about elections in the new territories of the Russian Federation are unacceptable and do not correspond to the nature of the alliance.
“Such assessments cannot be accepted by us, these are unacceptable assessments, and they are not consistent with the allied level of relations between our countries. Therefore, a diplomatic demarche was carried out before the Azerbaijani side. We expressed everything about this,” she said at a briefing as part of Eastern Economic Forum.
“We proceed from the fact that Baku should treat issues of the territorial integrity of our country with the same respect that our partners expect from us when it comes to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. I think our Azerbaijani friends know the history of the new regions well,” the diplomat added.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan announced “the illegitimacy of the elections in the new regions of Russia”.
Yevgeny Balitsky, the acting governor of the region, stated earlier that the opinion of Western experts regarding the elections held in the new regions of Russia is not of interest to the residents of the Zaporizhia region.
It should also be noted that the State Duma pointed out Armenia’s destructive position on the issue of Karabakh.
A demarche is a diplomatic action taken by a country’s government, foreign ministry or diplomatic mission towards another country
