The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament called on Ankara to recognize the Armenian Genocide. This is stated in the Committee’s report on Turkey. The Representative Office of Armenia in the EU provided the information.
It is noted that the Committee supports the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey based on the interests of reconciliation, regional stability and security.
The Committee calls for the prompt implementation of the arrangements of the special representatives, such as the opening of the airspace and the border between the two countries, and welcomes the progress made so far, noting with satisfaction the presence of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the inauguration ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“The Committee calls on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide in order to pave the way for real reconciliation between the Turkish and Armenian peoples,” the report says.
The document includes another appeal to Turkey, that is, to completely fulfill its obligations to protect the Armenian cultural heritage.
