The Chamber of Advocates announced a strike today

The Chamber of Advocates announced a strike today, on 26 June.

The Chamber of Advocates informs that the topic in fact, is the inadequate response (lack of response) of competent state authorities in relation to recent cases of violence against lawyers in police departments.

A march will also be held today, starting from the administrative building of the Palace to the Central Division of the Yerevan City Department of the RA Police, where violence was recently used against the lawyer.

“The lawyers will give their symbolic gift to the head of the division,” the statement said.

Simon Babayan, the President of the Chamber of Advocates, also stated that the RA Constitution, provides that advocacy based on independence, self-governance and legal equality of advocates shall be guaranteed with a view of ensuring legal aid.

“26 June is a symbolic day, the International Day of Support for Victims of Torture, and it is appropriate to remind about the role and significance of the most important institution of our society – Advocacy on that day.

Therefore, in order to prevent the existing obstacles to the implementation of the lawyer’s professional activity, to ensure the effective protection of the violated rights of lawyers,

We will hold a one-day protest action on 26 June, 2023, refusing to provide protection or representation in the state bodies of the Republic of Armenia (including courts, preliminary investigation bodies) on that day.”
