A Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant has started operating on the Roof of One of the Buildings of Polytechnic

Rector of National Polytechnic University of Armenia Mr. Gor Vardanyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Armenia Mr. Kalin Anastasov and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Armenian National Polytechnic University, Mr. Tigran Avinyan, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan participated in the commissioning of a 30 kW solar photovoltaic power plant on the roof of the 17th building of the university.

The program was financed by the Government of Bulgaria within the framework of the “Improving the Quality of Education through Sustainable Innovative Technologies” Project,

Gor Vardanyan mentioned that the program should create new value in the university in 2 directions: improvement of professional abilities, and contribution to the process of financial stability of the university. According to the Rector, there is a goal to install a 736 kW solar plants on the roofs of the buildings, which will cover the annual electricity costs of the university (55-60 million AMD). That money will be used to improve the quality of education.

“We decided to build the station, which should be implemented by the scientific, research and engineering personnel of the University. When we first talked about this, we saw skepticism among our colleagues. They had no idea how to go about this project and make it a success. I will tell you how. Through the professional, scientific and engineering team of the polytechnic,” the Rector noted, thanking the people involved in the program.

The station has already provided a benefit of 43-44 thousand drams to the University within 7 days.

Tigran Avinyan emphasized in his speech that energy efficiency and energy saving are one of the important factors of today’s world. According to the Deputy Mayor, it is important not only to save money, but also that the energy consumed by the university will be “green”. “I congratulate everyone, I thank the Bulgarian Embassy. I wish for all of us to have similar programs in the Polytechnic often.”

Kalin Anastasov congratulated the polytechnic students on the successful completion of the construction of the 30 kW solar power plant and the start of the production of clean and renewable energy. He knows that the university has a rich history, it is an educational center considered to be the center of technological education and innovation in Armenia. The Ambassador added that he was glad that with this initiative the Republic of Bulgaria contributes to the important cause of sustainable development and to the university, which is one of the most respectable educational institutions in Armenia.
