Artists Who Lost Their Lives in the 2020 Artsakh War: Picture Book published

“Artists Who Lost Their Lives in the 2020 Artsakh War” picture book has been published. The purpose of the book is to present the artists martyred in the 44-day war and their works.

“Pyunik” Charitable Foundation headed by Mr. Gabriel Djemberjyan, supported the creation of the picture book. This was not the first support for such works. With the support of the Foundation, the exhibition of the participant of the 44-day war, artist, candidate of pedagogical sciences, docent Sevada Sargsyan entitled “Valley of Hell” and other events were held as well

The Picture Book was also published in the patriarchate of His Holliness Garegin B. Catholicos of All Armenians. In 2021, with the support of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Gevorgyan Theological Seminary exhibited the works of the participants of the Second Artsakh War entiteles “Before…”.

Lusine Karamyan, the director of “Liver” Company, initiated the project and coordinated the process of creating the picture book.

The works by Gor Avagyan, Gor Avetisyan, Gevorg Arshakyan, Artak Barseghyan, Andranik Grigoryan, Moris Grigoryan, Artak Tovmasyan, Azhdahak Kirakosyan, Khoren Hadjatyan, Arman Harutyunyan, Hamlet Hovhannisyan, Harutyun Ghazaryan, Armen Grigoryan, Hovhannes Mazmanyan, Hayk Nalbandian, Vigen Muradyan, The works of Misak Mkrtchyan, Aram Poghosyan, Edgar Tonakanyan, Taron Filipposyan are presented.

The picture book used both the works of the deceased creators, and also photos from their personal archive.

“Some of them were already formed and well-established, and would truly shape the emage of Armenian art tomorrow. Some of them had passed the way of learning the fundamentals of classical art, and gradually became recognizable. Those who are relatively younger in age, showing the first signs of grace, had just entered the art university, were preparing to take the first serious steps,” Ara Haytayan, author of the picture book and author of texts, artist, art critic noted.

Ara Haytayan also expressed hope that every person reading the book, dealing with the lives and works of young people, will consider it their duty, each to their own extent, to support and be next to the families of the victims.
