Actor Vakhtang Kikabidze has died

Actor Vakhtang Kikabidze died in Georgia at the age of 84, Georgian Mtavari.tv reports.

It should be noted that in 2021 October, Kikabidze’s wife, Irina Kebadze, passed away.

In recent years, Kikabidze was seriously ill, the media did not specify the cause of death.

Vakhtang Konstantinovich Kikabidze was born on 19 July, 1938 in Tbilisi. As a child, he lived in the Vere region, in the neighborhood of Parajanov. After finishing school, he studied at Tbilisi University in 1955-1957.

In 1969, he starred for the first time in the film “Don’t Grieve” by Georgi Danelia, for which he won the award for the best male role at the Cartagena International Film Festival in 1970. The next significant film in 1973 was “Melody of the Veriysky Quarter” directed by Georgy Shengelaya. In 1977, Danelia’s film “Mimino” was released, which won the USSR State Prize in 1978.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, Kikabidze was awarded the St. George’s Order of Victory by Georgia, and the Order of Friendship by Russia, but he refused the latter after the events of August 2008 in South Ossetia.

He is the performer of a number of famous songs, including “Chito Grito”, “My Years are my Wealth” and others.
