Yerevan refused to participate in the meeting on the peace treaty: Russian Foreign Ministry

Yerevan refused to participate in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia to discuss a peace treaty. This was reported in the Russian diplomatic department.

The talks were scheduled for December 23 in Moscow․

In response to Armenpress question, Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan said that the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan was scheduled for 23 December in Moscow, but the Armenian side asked to postpone the meeting, because at the moment the priority of the Foreign Minister of Armenia is to address the problems created as a result of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh and the unimpeded restart of the Lachin Corridor.

“The Armenian side confirmed its readiness to participate in the meeting to be held in Moscow about 2 weeks ago, before the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan. Obviously, the work priority of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan at the moment is the unhindered resumption of the Lachin Corridor in accordance with the Trilatteral Statement of 9 November, 2020 and addressing the problems created as a result of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno Karabakh, based on which the Armenian side requested to postpone the meeting scheduled in Moscow.

At the same time, let us inform that as a sign of the constructiveness of the Armenian side in the process of normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, regardless of the circumstances of the meeting, the new proposals of the Armenian side regarding the document on the normalization of relations were transferred to Azerbaijan,” the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry said.
