The Senate approved the candidacy of Lynne Tracy, who was nominated by President Joe Biden for the post of US Ambassador to Russia.
It is noted that she is fluent in Russian, in 2014-2017 she worked as the Deputy Head of the American diplomatic mission in Moscow, and in recent years she headed the US diplomatic mission in Armenia. On Wednesday, Tracy’s nomination was approved by an overwhelming majority of 93 votes against 2. Republican Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee voted against.
Tracy, who previously served as Ambassador to Armenia, will become the first woman to serve as US Ambassador to Russia.
“The United States needs an ambassador who will represent us in Moscow,” Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said, reminding that today is the 300th day of Russia’s war against Ukraine and calling for support for Tracy.
Biden announced Tracy’s nomination in September, weeks after John Sullivan resigned.
Tracy is fluent in Russian and in 2014-2017 worked as the Deputy Head of the US Diplomatic Mission in Moscow.
