On 5 December, Russian media reported on Vladimir Putin’s visit to the Crimean Bridge over the Kerch Strait. The President crossed the bridge in a Mercedes, listened to the report of the Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and instructed to “bring the structure of the bridge to perfect condition”, Meduza reports .
On 8 October, a truck exploded on the Crimean Bridge, as a result of which two spans of the bridge collapsed.
According to official data, four people died. Putin called the explosion a “terrorist attack” and blamed the intelligence services of Ukraine for it. Mykhail Podoliak, Adviser to the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Staff, said that the Russians themselves could have participated in the explosion. Two days after the explosion, the Russian military launched coordinated missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Putin’s Press Secretary explained why the Russian President was crossing the Crimean bridge in a Mercedes. He noted that there was no Russian-made car nearby.
