Four people were killed as a result of a domestic gas explosion in Nizhnevartovsk, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations told RIA Novosti.
“The death toll has risen to four,” the source said.
According to the mayor’s office, the number of victims reached ten.
The explosion occurred in a residential building on Mira Street at about 18:06 local time. The ceilings of the second and third floors collapsed.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that rescuers arrived four minutes after the explosion. Ten people were rescued from the house, 52 evacuated on their own. Currently, 109 people and 30 pieces of equipment are working at the site.
The mayor of the city Dmitry Koshchenko specified that, according to preliminary information, a gas cylinder exploded in the house. The building was not supplied with gas.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug began an investigation. The regional department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on causing death by negligence.
