I suggest that the transport be free of charge: Levon Zakaryan

Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan said during the session of the Council of Elders on 22 November, that 51 drivers of the public transport operated by the community were fired.

“There are drivers to whom, in addition to coins, banknotes are handed as well, and we are following through cameras. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I ask our citizens to have 100 drams with them and deliver that money to the community. With those funds, we are able to purchase new buses and trolleybuses. We are able to carry out lighting and landscaping works. I think having 100 drams is not that difficult,” the Mayor said.

Levon Zakaryan, a member of the Council of Elders of Yevan’s “My step” bloc, made a recommendation on the topic.

Levon Zakaryan, a member of My Step” Alliance of the Council of Elders of Yerevan”, made a recommendation on the topic.

“My proposal may seem romantic, but I propose that the transport should be free, because people who create public goods and students use the transport. We can find some solutions so that some money will go from the taxes and cover those costs and the transport will be free. In that case, there will be no need to control 100 drams, will they enter from the first door or the middle one,” the member of Council said.

In response, the Mayor said that it is a good approach and different countries use that approach.

“Regardless of everything, whether it will be paid or not, I think the transport system should be established,” Hrachya Sargsyan said.

According to Levon Zakaryan, 100 drams do not cover these costs.
