Armed clashes are taking place along the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Tajik soldiers have started shelling several regions on the border with Kyrgyzstan. The border service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported on September 16.  TASS writes.

” The Tajik side began shelling the areas of Kulundu, Maksat and Zhany-Zher in the Leilek district of the Batken region. Armed clashes are going on along the entire perimeter of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border,” the text reads.

According to the Border Guard Service, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border “continues to remain tense”. “Soldiers of the National Security State Committee stationed in this direction are returning fire,” the message says.

The border service of Kyrgyzstan informed that on the morning of September 16, Tajikistan began shelling the Kyrgyz border detachments in the areas of Eki-Tash, Chir-Dobo, Kum-Mazar and Orto-Boz, as well as the Samarkandek outpost. There have been no reports of casualties yet.

The situation on the border between the two states escalated on September 14. The Kyrgyz side reported two wounded military personnel and three wounded civilians.

RIA Novosti writes that Kyrgyzstan also claims that, despite the ceasefire declared by both republics from 7:00 Moscow time, shelling from the opposite side does not stop. According to the republican Ministry of Health, 11 Kyrgyz military were injured as a result of the aggravation of the conflict.

Bishkek accused Dushanbe of a “treacherous attack”. Tajikistan, in turn, accuses Kyrgyzstan of aggravating the situation.
