Artur Vanetsyan, the chairman of “Homeland” Party, made a statement, in which he said:
“Dear compatriots,
Today, we all once again found ourselves in a difficult situation. All our thoughts are with our boys standing at the border who are selflessly carrying out their sacred mission of protecting the motherland. Humbly, in memory of our fallen soldiers, patience to their families and relatives, recovery to all wounded.
Today’s situation was unfortunately predictable. Could we have avoided this, of course? And we have repeatedly and very clearly indicated the only way to stop the ongoing tragedy. There is much to say about this, but today is not the day and time for all that.
Having not received an adequate response for unleashing the 44-day war and war crimes in 2020, Azerbaijan resorted to another aggression, attacking the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. There are several reasons for the enemy’s attack on the Armenian positions since midnight and the tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani borders. And, of course, the lack of an accurate assessment by the international community plays a significant role in all of that. Another aggression of Baku, which this time is being carried out against the sovereign territory of Armenia, a member of the United Nations, should receive an appropriate international response:
- By the Russian Federation, which is a strategic ally of RA, with the existing bilateral obligations under the “Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance” agreement of 1997, and with the relevant tools. RF also in is the mediator and guarantor of the cease-fire declaration of 9 November, 2020, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, one of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group and a country carrying out a mediation mission in the process of the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,
- By the CSTO, of which the Republic of Armenia is a full member and which has clear obligations regarding the resolution of the created situation, taking into account, among other things, the official application of the Republic of Armenia.
- By the OSCE, as a specialized structure for security and cooperation issues in Europe, under which was also formed the Artsakh settlement process in 1992. the body that is the main mediating format, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship,
- By the United Nations as the body responsible for maintaining the international legal order.
It is important to realize that in the situation created today, the lack of response, delay, lack of address or clarity of the above-mentioned states and structures, as well as other members of the international community, regardless of their reasons, will increase the atmosphere of permissiveness in Baku, giving the opportunity for new provocations and illegalities. Therefore, in the case of today’s silence, the above-mentioned actors will also become responsible for Azerbaijan’s attitude and steps tomorrow.”
