China’s regulator has approved a nasal vaccine against COVID-19 as a booster dose. As a result, it is the first alternative to an injectable vaccine since the beginning of the pandemic. The public broadcaster of Georgia writes about this.
Just one nasal spray of the new vaccine provides powerful protection against COVID-19. The Chinese vaccine manufacturer CanSino reported.
The nasal vaccine contains the same ingredients as other Chinese vaccines, but the nebulizer turns it into an aerosol.
Like US vaccines against COVID-19, CanSino’s formula contains patches of genetic material that help the body recognize the virus.
The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines inject this material directly, while the CanSino vaccine uses a safer version of the common cold virus to deliver information about the coronavirus.
According to the World Health Organization, a single dose of the CanSino vaccine is 92% effective against the acute form of COVID-19 and 58% effective in providing full protection against the disease.
Clinical trials of it as a booster dose (after one dose of injectable vaccine) have shown it to be as effective as two doses of Sinovac vaccine.
The spray vaccine strengthens the protection of the nasal mucosa and upper respiratory tract, through which the virus enters the body.
