I am happy to announce that the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination published its latest report on Azerbaijan yesterday. Lawyer Taron Simonyan wrote on his Facebook page.
The report, among other violations, states that in Azerbaijan there is “incitement of racial hatred and spread of racist stereotypes against persons of Armenian national or ethnic origin, including on the Internet and social networks, as well as by public figures and state officials. There is also a lack of detailed information on investigations, prosecutions, convictions and sanctions for such acts.”
Furthermore, the Committee is “concerned by reports that school textbooks, , promote prejudice and incite racial hatred, and the marginalization of ethnic minorities in history curricula, particularly against ethnic Armenians.”
This is another important step in the direction of advancing the Armenian interest in the diplomatic and legal arenas.
