As a result of the voting, the Chairman of SJC was not elected: Sergey Chichoyan will perform the duties of the SJC Chairman

In accordance with Article 84 of the RA Constitutional Law “Judicial Code”, on 4 July, a vote was held in the RA Supreme Judicial Council, as a result of which the Chairman of the Council was not elected.

According to the law, the duties of the Chairman of the Supreme Council will be performed by the eldest member of the Council.

Notably the eldest member of the Council, S. Mikayelyan has submitted a resignation from fulfilling his duties according to the principle of seniority.

According to the Council’s decision, the application was accepted and the duties of the Chairman of the Board of Directors will be performed by the next eldest member, Sergey Chichoyan.

As we have already reported, the Supreme Judicial Council adopted decisions on 4 July, according to which the powers of two members of the SJC, Gagik Jhangiryan and Liparit Melikjanyan, were terminated.

Let’s remind that, according to the SJC, Gagik Jhangiryan, acting chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, resigned from the position of a member of the SJC due to health problems.

And Liparit Melikjanyan was elected a judge of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation based on the results of the vote of the National Assembly held on 28 June.
