Exclusive surgery for liver bile duct tumor performed in Armenia։ Khachatur Badalyan operated for about 9 hours

Recently, a complicated operation on the bile ducts of the liver headed by Khachatur Badalyan, Head of the Chair of Surgical Diseases and Modern Surgical Technologies of the National Institute of Health; Surgeon, Oncologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, was performed at “Izmirlian” Medical Center.

The 60-year-old patient (male) had a tumor of the bile ducts, which is not very common. Khachatur Badalyan mentions that there is a big complication, because when the bile ducts close and cause jaundice, jaundice becomes the cause of death.

“The most painful thing is that the vessels of the liver, artery, vein and bile duct are very close and the tumor very quickly penetrates the vessels and becomes a technically difficult operation for the doctor.

No such surgery was performed in Armenia, and when I moved here and started treating patients, I have already encountered various complications with bile duct tumors. After the jaundice passes, we solved the problem with drainage, operated, removed the tumor, we have quite good results.

It was rare for us to go to surgery and not be able to do anything, when they open the abdomen, they say it is not possible and close it back. This is very important, “The group conducts examinations in advance, discovers the nuances, the features that are very important for the operation,” the doctor says.

According to him, due to incomplete examination before the operation, such surgeries were rarely performed, unfortunately, people died.

“In this case, it was possible to operate, because in advance, as a result of the discussion of our diagnostic group, we discovered all the features. It is unfortunate that the patient had applied elsewhere, they had examined and said that it was impossible to do anything, they had said that it was impossible to operate in Armenia, and there was no surgeon. And this is not the first case. “People also remain hopeless,” Khachatur Badalyan said.

This was not the first such surgery of the professor, but each of the previous surgeries had its own peculiarity and uniqueness.

The professor says that it is important that as a result of the operation, a few branches remain from the bile ducts, ensure the flow of bile and the patient does not rely on drainage.

“The operation lasted about 9 hours. The problem is that, unlike foreign clinics, we do not have the opportunity to have another specialist to replace the specialist, There is no such experience and not having that opportunity, the doctor himself must have health, to take all the responsibility to endure and complete a long operation,” the Professor noted and adds that such a base should be created.

Khachatur Badalyan mentions that during the operation the patient lost about 150 grams of blood, which is positively assessed, because if the blood loss is less, the patient takes it easier and recovers in the postoperative period.
