The RA General Prosecutor’s Office has already informed that in 2021, a total of 1698 persons were prosecuted in 2,312 corruption-related criminal cases during the year. 1356 people were prosecuted in 2535 cases in 2020. That is, compared to the previous year, during 2021, in the case of criminal case when about 8.8% less were investigated, 25.2% more persons were prosecuted.

The Prosecutor General’s Office informed.

590 were officials and public servants were among the prosecuted. Among them are, in particular, the retired President of the Republic of Armenia, 2 deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, 4 ministers, 1 deputy minister, 3 judges, Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Deputy Minister of Defense – Acting Chief of Military Police, 2 governors, former mayor of Yerevan as well as 51 employees of the National Security Service, the police, the investigative committee, penitentiaries, the State Revenue Committee and the compulsory service.

The following were also prosecuted:

• 62 representatives of the healthcare sector, including: 2 directors of the polyclinic; 1 chairman of the commission of medical and social examinations; director of the National Center for Addiction Treatment, director of the Hematology Center; director of the SNCO; head of the outpatient clinic; 26 doctors and others.
• 70 representatives of the education sphere, including: 2 rectors of the university; 1 vice-rector, 45 directors of schools, kindergartens, colleges and other educational institutions, etc.
• 40 representatives of the social security sphere, including: the former advisor to the minister; the head of the ministry’s expertise department; the director of the ministry’s regional employment center; the former head of the social service; the director of the nursing home; the deputy director and others.
• 5 representatives in the field of energy and natural resources, including: the Deputy Head of the  State Property Management Department; the General Director of “ANPP” CJSC; the General Advisor to the General Director of “ANPP” CJSC, etc.

• 172 representatives of the local self-government sphere, including: 134 current and former heads of the community; 1 deputy head of the community; 2 heads of the administrative district; head of the cemetery and others,

• 107 representatives of the Armed Forces, including: the Head of the RA Ministry of Defense General Staff Department; Deputy Chief of the RA Armed Forces General Staff; Head of the RA Armed Forces Missile Troops and Artillery Department; Head of the Capital Construction and Accommodation Department and Deputy Chief of Staff; Former Head of the Military Medical Department of the Armed Forces; Member of the Supreme Officers’ Advisory Board in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia; Deputy of the Military Commissariat, Chairman of the Commission and others,

• 45 representatives of other spheres, including: former ambassador; executive director of “Hayastan All-Armenian Fund” NGO; director of the House of Culture; general director of “Electricity System Operator” CJSC of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration; former director of the metro; former assistant mayor of Yerevan; theater director; bank Branch manager; 2 directors of forestry; former executive director of WUA; director of the gallery, etc.

Due to the imperative to increase the quality and efficiency of corruption investigations, prosecutors issued to the implementing bodies 481 instructions in 2021, which is 18.5% more than in 2020 (406). In connection with the violation of the law during the investigation of the cases, 30 decisions were made to exclude the employee or investigator of the investigation body from participating in the criminal proceedings.

During the year, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia continued to investigate new manifestations of corruption crimes, to identify new, improved ways of their execution and to establish the main criteria for planning and conducting a more effective investigation based on the received information.

Emphasis was placed on the detection of various corrupt crimes with corrupt recurrence, using different schemes, with a complicated method of execution. Such manifestations have been identified, in particular, in the areas of urban development, architecture and design work, burial arrangements and land allocation in cemeteries, customs and tax control.

The fight against corruption is an absolute priority in 2022 as well.
