Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Diseases Control and Public Health (NCDC), says that according to preliminary data from a new study, about 85% of the Georgian population has acquired immunity (resistance) to the coronavirus.

According to the head of the NCDC, a large-scale study is underway, involving about 20,000 people, to find out what percentage of the population is infected with the disease, how many have been vaccinated.

“According to preliminary data, 85% of the population already has an immune layer, it refers to those who have been vaccinated and those who have overcome the disease,” Gamkrelidze said.

It should be noted that as of 22 March, 2022, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the country since the beginning of the epidemic is 1,643,295.
