Russia and Ukraine exchanged prisoners: RIA Novosti

The first exchange of prisoners took place between Russia and Ukraine. The Commissioner for Human Rights of Russia Tatiana Moskalkova said, RIA Novosti reported.

“It is very important that the Ukrainian side does its best to start the exchange of prisoners. The first exchange took place: nine of our people, part of the list that is formed by me through the requests that come in. I really hope that we will not delay this, with lists, cards, procedures,” Moskalkova said in an interview with Anton Krasovsky. The ombudsman confirmed that the mayor of Melitopol was among the prisoners.

It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.

The US and the EU have assessed Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
