“The issue we are especially discussing is the restoration of lasting peace in the South Caucasus,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told reporters after the G-20 summit in Rome.
Erdogan noted that talks are underway on the establishment of a “six” platform in the South Caucasus. “Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Georgia and Armenia. Let us take a joint step to restore peace in the region. In this regard, Mr. Ilham Aliyev has already offered peace to Armenia. If all these countries are positive, this platform will be created, and the region will become a platform for peace.”
The President of Turkey stated that only in this case the relations with Armenia will develop in a positive direction.
It should be reminded that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that he had discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister the idea of creating a “3 + 3” format with the participation of Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Lavrov noted that Iran has a positive attitude towards this initiative, as well as Turkey and Azerbaijan.
“We work with our Armenian partners. We hope that Georgia, despite all the problems it faces, will be able to see its fundamental interest in establishing a mechanism for consultations and decision-making on the development of this region, which will ensure the accelerated development of the region, which has long been hampered by existing conflicts.” The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized.
