“First of all, we are very concerned about the situation. You know that June of this year was a record heat, because of which an unprecedented difficult situation arose, but the Water Committee is working in its normal course. The main problem is that there is a need for irrigation in arid lands, which in fact has damaged the harvest of arid lands,” Vahan Kerobyan, acting Minister of Economy, told reporters at a briefing.
He noted that farmers sometimes misinform the Water Committee. They sow another plant instead of the reported one, the water demand of which is different. For example, potatoes need a lot more water than other crops.”
The Acting Minister noted that they are trying to move to new, more efficient systems.
“We must make sure that the irrigation problem is solved very quickly in the coming years, the system is modernized so that we have an efficient system that will meet the needs of the villagers,” Vahan Kerobyan said.
