President Armen Sargsyan must hold immediate consultations to resolve the situation

The “For the Republic” Party has issued a statement, which says:

Taking into account the extreme situation in Armenia, the governing body of the “For the Republic” Party calls on the country’s armed forces and all law enforcement agencies to act exclusively within the framework of constitutionality and legality.

We consider any step or action not envisaged by the Constitution to be an encroachment on the democracy, sovereignty and statehood of Armenia.

The President of the Republic Armen Sargsyan, as the head of the state, must immediately undertake political consultations with all the parties in order to transfer the current situation exclusively to the constitutionality and to the legitimacy to resolve the processes.

The National Assembly must immediately convene a special sitting to discuss exclusively the political ways out of the situation in the country, to make a statement on resolving the situation in a constitutional way.

The external and internal challenges facing our country demand that the political forces assume the role of defending democracy and the constitution in Armenia with a high awareness of their responsibility. The political crisis must be overcome exclusively through legality and constitutionality.

“Our people must be armed with wisdom, undertake the sacred mission of defending our statehood, sovereignty and democracy.”

Earlier, the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, headed by Onik Gasparyan, demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assessed the statement as an attempt at a military coup. He invited his supporters to the Republic Square to talk to them.

He noted that yesterday and today he made decisions to dismiss both the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and the Chief, Onik Gasparyan, which was followed by the statement of the General Staff.

“I describe what is happening as an attempt of a military coup. I have taken all the responsibility and I will answer the questions myself. We have reached a stage where, unfortunately, we cannot avoid asking questions to some of our high-ranking military men, because if we want the whole truth about the war to be known, we cannot avoid asking questions to some of our high-ranking military men, but some generals do not like, that we can ask them questions about some episodes. We need to know the answers to a number of questions, related to specific combat, military episodes, what were the connections between some high-ranking officers and some political circles and who were in contact with the army during the war, instead of saying, make your battles, urge, that the problem of power must be solved,” he said.

Currently the Small Center is crowded.
