The Government of the Republic of Armenia plans to include in the list of border communities about 40 settlements of Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, which became border after the war. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan stated this during a question-answer session with the Government in the National Assembly, answering the question of Srbuhi Grigoryan, a member of the “Bright Armenia” faction.
“The issue is regulated by the law on social assistance to border communities, which currently includes about 40 communities. A draft of changes in the list will be presented at tomorrow’s government sitting, according to which about 40 communities of Syunik region, Gegharkunik region, will be included in that list, where residents will benefit from the established privileges,” he said.
Residents of border communities will be exempt from paying property taxes and will receive some partial compensation for utility bills. School textbooks will also be free for their children.
