WHO warns of third wave of coronavirus at the beginning of the year

World Health Organization Special Envoy David Nabarro, in an interview with the Swiss media company CH Media, warned of the danger of a third wave of coronavirus, which could cover Europe early next year, RIA Novosti reported.

Nabarro noted that European countries failed to prevent the second wave, although they managed to take control of the first.

“The European response was incomplete. They missed the opportunity to build the necessary infrastructure in the summer months after taking control of the first wave. And now they have a second wave. If they don’t build the necessary infrastructure now, they will have a third wave early next year,” he said.

According to the WHO special envoy, now many Western European countries are faced with the task of taking the virus under control again, but not resorting to such a gross measure as a lockdown, because, Nabarro stated, one has to pay a high price for it.

As for the countries of East Asia, the situation with the coronavirus there is better due to clear communication between the authorities and the population, Nabarro added.

“Another element that is very noticeable in East Asia: after the number of cases has been reduced thanks to the strong reaction of the people, the measures are not weakened. It is necessary to wait until the rates become low and remain so,” he stressed.
