After talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the participants of the meeting confirmed that there is no alternative to the trilateral agreement on Nagorno Karabakh, Radio Sputnik reports.
“The talks were held in the format of our interdepartmental delegation, and then additional consultations were held in a narrow format. The main conclusion is that the alternative to the agreement reached by Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9 has been fully confirmed,” Lavrov told reporters.
It should be noted that both Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu were sent on business trips to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Lavrov added that the agreement “stopped the bloodshed and established a long-term settlement of the situation around Nagorno Karabakh.”
Aliyev said that the ceasefire statement in Karabakh put an end to the long-term confrontation in the region.
He noted that the provisions of the agreement are being successfully implemented, and “this once again demonstrates the readiness of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides to put an end to the long-term conflict and come to a political settlement.”
“After 44 days of armed struggle, hostilities, a document was signed, which I consider to be a very important political document, which essentially puts an end to the many years of confrontation. I would like to express my gratitude to you, also to the leadership of Russia, President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for active personal participation in the adoption of this important political document,” Aliyev said.
