Lavrov said that the status of Karabakh will be determined after the rights of residents of the region are clarified

The status of Nagorno-Karabakh will be determined after the rights of all categories of residents of this region are clarified. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this on Thursday, the 12 of November in an interview with Russian and foreign media. TASS reports.

“We proceed from the assumption that this status will be determined depending on what actions we should all take to help restore ethno-confessional harmony in Nagorno-Karabakh, as it was for many years, until the war broke out there during the collapse of the USSR, which had disastrous consequences,” – he stressed.

“The status can be determined only after it is clear what rights will be granted to all those who lived in Nagorno-Karabakh and have the right to return there, and, of course, those who continued to be in this territory all the time,” the minister added.

Lavrov noted the need to involve UNESCO in the restoration of cultural monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh as well.
