Islamists will not sleep peacefully in France: Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has said at a meeting of the Defense Council that “Islamists will not sleep peacefully in France.” Armenpress reported quoting the BFMTV TV channel.

The Council of Ministers, with the participation of the President and members of the Government, convened in the evening on 18 October in connection with the assassination of a history teacher, which took place on 16 October and shook the whole country.

The TV channel also notes that from 19 October, the inspections of the authors of 80 messages posted on social networks, which were in defense of the attacker on the teacher, will begin. In the evening on 16 October, the villain beheaded history teacher Samuel Paty near the Conflans-Sainte-Honorine commune, not far from Paris.

The slain man was teaching history, giving free speech lessons to his students and showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived in the commune where the assassination took place accompanied by a number of ministers, called the incident a terrorist act. Eleven people were arrested during the investigation of the case, which is being handled by the anti-terrorist department of the Prosecutor’s Office.

On 18 October, rallies were held in Place de la République in Paris and other French cities in memory of the slain teacher, with protesters chanting slogans in support of free speech and teacher protection. The protests were attended by the country’s Prime Minister Jean Castex, a number of members of the government and Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The Elysee Palace has announced that a national farewell ceremony for the slain teacher will take place on 21 October, RIA Novosti reported.
