Chairman of the Public Council Styopa Safaryan issued a statement, which reads:

“Dear Colleagues of the Public Council և Dear Society,

The Aznavour Foundation and the son of a great Armenian figure, Nikola Aznavour, have applied to the Armenian Government with a proposal to rename “Zvartnots” Airport after Charles Aznavour. The Foundation informed that the author of the initiative are Charles Aznavour’s fans. The Government of the Republic of Armenia has also applied to the Public Council of the Republic of Armenia to express its position on this issue.

Taking into account the difficulties and impossibility of convening sittings by the Public Council and its relevant commissions in the conditions of the State of Emergency, we will be forced to discuss these and other issues and make conclusions electronically or remotely.

The package received from the Government of the Republic of Armenia has been sent to all members of the Public Council, but no less important is the public opinion, at least with the help of social networks, for which purpose the proposal is posted on the Public Council’s Facebook page.
